Dark plum color, slight bricking on edge
Nose is complex and layered revealing different notes as it opened: initially fruit cake, menthol, meat with ripe plum and black cherry notes and a little orange rind and then dried treee branch, balsamic dipped strawberries and sage.
Complex and layered palate - fermented luzardo cherries, orange bitters, honeyed pound cake. Very polished. The fruit is fresh but very focused - almost a light version of an amazon.
After 5 hours of air lots of chocolate covered raisins and very amazon-like.

(2-hour decant)
Dark red color, rose petals on the edge.
Beautiful nose of crushed ripe berries, iron, graphite, chocolate with an underlying sweetness.
Very full on the palate - meal in a glass - a nice core of ripe blueberries, along with baking spices and mineralogy. Still tannic but acidity gives the wine great balance. Very polished and fresh. Would have guessed St. Estephe.
As the wine continued to open it revealed both a hint at its Italian heritage as well as the Mondavi style.

Blue-red hue but the color is less impressive than the sheen. No signs of bricking to the watery edge.
Nose has initial barnyard that tells you Burgundy and gives way to wild flowers and cherry notes with air. Beautiful and delicately perfumed.
On the nuanced and sophisticated palate you get cherries, minerals and bright acidity. Great balance. A little thin but gained weight as it opened.
This is an elegant wine that made me feel under-dressed - I should have worn black tie. A very classy wine.

Cherry red color - to the rim, no signs of oxidation. Both strawberry and black licorice notes (a first for me), caramel creme, eucalyptus, cinnamon and baking spices, and a little birch beer on the nose. Big ripe red fruit (raspberry, strawberry and cherry), sarsparilla root, and tartness that finished with a light campari note. Has evolved beautifully with age. Very low in alcohol for Zin-based wines of this era - 14.4%. A beautifully crafted wine...as always.

8/5/13, 6:23 PM - I added the eucalyptus note after reading others' posts - spot on!

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of pineapple, talc, lemon and camphor. Flavors of lemon, dried pineapple and an underlying mineral streak. Bright to tart acidity, medium body. Drink or hold.
