drank one glass with earthy, orange notes. Then decanted for 2.5 hours for greater maturity and very smooth finish. Raspberry and graphite notes.

Had this at Winery wine club event. Usually don't like merlot but this changed my mind. Paired with merlot marinated meatballs, stone fruit, dark cherries, earth.

Drunk over three hours. First out of the bottle showed rather harsh tannins. Subsequent glasses softened into very enjoyable evening.
The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle.

The colour is very deep purple/red. The aromas very focused ripe on plum, cherry, dark berries and chocolate with mineral tones. Balanced in the mouth with great fruit sweetness, acidity and density. Slightly chewy tannins and lingering spicy finish. Pretty decent, but lacking a bit of character. Can be cellared for another 5 years. 3.8

Disappointing for such an illustrious Chard. Probably waited too long.

Wine was rough upon first opening, with a smoky nose. Secpnd night improved to good quality. Third night improved greatly with adequate nose but excellent taste, including long aftertaste.
I used a Coravin device which extracted the wine by replacement with argon, without opening on nights 1 and 2, fully opening on night 3.

Continued to sip this very old St. Julien and it did not fail on day 2 or day 3. In fact, under nitrogen, it gained a bit of nose and fruit.

I would agree with Miss Highwater. Although there is not much to the nose, the delicate tannins came through with a pleasant, thoroughly drinkable "senior" St. Julien, after decanting. There was not that much sediment. It goes well with left over Easter tenderloin.
I'll see how it survives a day back in the bottle with a nice blanket of nitrogen.

Lots of graphite on the palate but little nose on opening.
2nd day, a bit of fruit.
3rd day(!) really blossomed into a soft fruity taste. The merlot really shown thru.
Not too much sediment but could have used a decanter to areate and provide a sooner, more satisfying first day.

This is my favourite ladder wine (back to 1961) The 61 was spectacular 3 years ago.

I would agree with Mike Kopanski. Definately not what I expected and not like PN. Interesting but not great
