4/21/15, 9:10 PM - Thank you for all of your feedback. It's nice to know someone reads these. To be honest, I was reviewing many wines that were drank during a trip to Mexico. Lots of variables at play and relying on my memory. When you drink yours in sometime in the next several years, let us know how it's doing!

Pretty darn good.

8/22/14, 6:40 PM - The 11 is a surprisingly good showing considering the struggles with the vintage in other parts of Washington. Seems like Red Mountain faired better than Walla Walla.

2011 K Vintners The Boy Washington Grenache

90% Grenache/10% Mourvedre. Light cherry red, very clear. Nose: Definitely cherries and pepper, but nose is a bit slow out of the gate. Slight bacon fat, bit of heat. Definitely stronger on the fruit and savory, not much in the way of herbs. Palate: Very smooth, somewhat acidic texture with fine grained, rigid tannins. Initial flavors are heavy on the savory side, with bacon fat and thyme. Definitely some funky mushrooms. Some truffles on the tail end. Strawberries start to show through in the vibrant acid, but the palate is weighted heavily towards the darker, almost petrol-y flavors. Finish: Really favors the dark savory flavors. This is my second vintage of The Boy and both times I've been left wanting more knowing how good Charles Smith's Syrahs can be.

4/21/14, 10:51 PM - we've been disappointed by the recent vintages of the boy. 07 an 09 were favorites, but the last two have caused me to leave it off the k order for next spring. i'm wondering if he has changed vineyards, but haven't bothered to look into it yet.

4/24/14, 9:56 PM - Agreed. The only CS wines that age well are the really expensive ones (i.e. royal city). We had an 05 The Beautiful recently that was long gone.
