2011 Marcel Deiss Engelgarten Alsace White Blend

A field blend of grapes with Riesling predominanting, but other grapes making themselves known. Despite some claims that this is a dry wine, it is noticeably sweet at 16g/L. Fruit and floral notes dominate the nose and palate, there is a nice acidity, but it is not electric like some German Riesling. The wine also had a somewhat oily texture. There was a glimpse of additional complexity in a touch of minerality, that was quickly obscured by the bountiful fruitful nature of this wine, like a cloud passing the sun. I would let this wine age for a few years to better let the residual sugar and fruit like nature settle down and become a better integrated wine. As I have a few more bottles, I might suggest waiting until 2019. If anyone has any experience with aging this wine, please let me know

10/11/17, 12:27 PM - The wines from Deiss tend to age very well. My Engelgarten '11 opened today was in perfect condition. It could have lasted some more years but I doubt it would get any better. So keep with no concern but don't delay for the sake of it.
