Lots of juicy fruit, blackberry, blueberry, vanilla notes. Deep and rich but lacking just a little in complexity. Still, very good.

6/6/16, 2:58 PM - No, not really. I think Mike makes this wine to be enjoyed early. But, you never know, it might help. By the way, I had the 2010 version of Three Twins in 2013 and it was absolutely fantastic.

Even better than the last bottle I had six months ago. Dark golden color, rich, with aromas of fruit and flowers. Flavors of pineapple and honeydew melon with a kind of creamy mouth feel. Quite delicious!

flawed
First bottle of this was flawed (I presume). This second bottle was better, but not overwhelmingly better. Plum flavors, round purple and red berry notes, as well as faint earth and spice. All in all, this was the most confusing and questionable Carter(s) I've ever had. Could both be corked in varying degrees? They have been in my cellar since purchase. Grrrr.

Not really fair to rate either wine I suppose. Not sure what happened here. A $300 epic fail on two fronts. Bummer.

Update: Carter made right and replaced both bottles. Class act outfit there. Thanks Dan!

5/22/16, 8:49 AM - Contact the winery and ask for a replacement. The Carter price is too much to pay for a flawed bottle (or two). I have done this a couple of times with other wineries when I got a bad bottle and have had surprisingly good success. This is assuming you got it directly from Carter. If not, then may be a tougher sell.

5/23/16, 11:16 AM - That's great! I have only asked one or two wineries to replace a bottle and I always feel funny about it because you are sort of asking them to trust you on the matter, but each time it worked out well. Yes, Carter makes some great wines and it is good to know they have good customer service to back it up!

A delicious wine. Spot on flavors of dark cherry and strawberry, nice weight and mouth feel. Just a very good wine at any price and an exceptional value where it is priced. Any of Walter Hansel's pinots are consistently good and I always feel comfortable recommending them to friends.

I really don't get this wine. Not much of a pinot drinker either. Hopefully it will improve. Probably won't buy any more. If anyone is out there that would like to buy some please contact me.

5/21/15, 12:01 PM - I have had 2 or 3 wines from this producer and this year that were corked or something. If you think it is bad, you may want to call the winery to ask for a replacement if you bought it direct.

flawed
Opened the bottle and let it breathe a few hours. First nose was alcohol. Wine was disjointed. The fruit had faded and it was not the sugary & fruity taste of other bottles. It was disjointed. Perhaps it's shut down now or a bad bottle.

Wow, can't believe my impression is so far off from RP who scored this wine a 98 and the other reviewers who have had this wine here on Cellar Tracker. First day impressions were that this is a very ordinary wine and actually a little below ordinary, an 89 for me. I have had Anderson's 2011 of this same wine and loved it. 2 hour decant, flavors seemed subdued, mouth feel was diluted and watery. It did not improve with time that evening. Don't think brett was the issue, there was no funk in the taste. A puzzler. Hopefully, the wine is going through a shut down phase and will reopen with more time in bottle. Second day, the wine was some improved with dark fruit flavors consolidating and coming forward. Second day was a 92. Overall score is a combination of the two.

11/16/14, 2:31 PM - Thanks for the comments. I have had a couple of great ACV wines and I hope this was just an off bottle or it has simply shut down. I have 3 more and will wait a year or so before opening and will hopefully have a better experience.

Tasty, fruit driven, yet elegant with obvious Bordeaux-influences. Compared to other Napa cab's that I've tasted this has a much more elegant oak-treatment and that was a positive surprise. Cool fruit with lots of dark plum-action with underlying layers of tobacco, currants and herbs. Smooth on the palate with gentle acid and tannin. Even if this one is a baby it think it delivers very good today. Give this a couple of years to let the primary fruit disappear and let some dirty notes develop!

Maybe a bit too overpriced but is there any Napa cap's that isn't overpriced? Or maybe this style of wine simple doesn't do it for me.

3/12/14, 7:04 AM - Agree that many many Napa cabs are overpriced. Napa wineries are pushing the envelope on price.
