Decanted for an hour and enjoyed with a smoked tri-tip, bottom sirloin roast. Deep, approachable, rich, and highly complex displaying a wonderful balance and mix of upfront red and black fruits: dark, smoky cherries; juicy plums; black olives; and spicy mixed berries. The early fruit forward character yields to layers of dark loamy earth, graphite, leafy fresh tobacco, vanilla extract, and some eucalyptus as the wine aerates over a number of hours. Like most of the Napa 2012's, the tannins and acidity seem to be very subdued, but are present in the background. Full bodied, and big, rich mouthfeel. Very satisfying finish. This far exceeded by initial expectations given my prior experience with this producer's mass market offerings; most definitely a top end offering. We'll see if it continues to develop; the '12's strike me as early drinkers.
