This wine punched me just right, in the right spot! Its not too often that 2/3 of the way down the bottle, I am so giddy and satisfied that it takes me 3 hours to finish one bottle...

Contrary to the price, this is a very serious, complex California wine with a Bordeaux panache. Mouth coating flavors of dried black fruits, fig, baking spices, and sexy oak with a pleasantly dry and long exit that meticulously decimates all the flavors for 45 seconds...An easy to understand wine that is perfect for good friends that don't have much experience with good wine.
A very, very solid 93 experience! I had a really good time with this bottle.

1/27/15, 5:49 PM - I really enjoyed you're tasting notes on this bottle. Although, I would probably only go as high as 92. It's very good, but not great. I have been a fan of Groth Cabs for a long time now, and I must say, don't expect this same experience from the 2011 (I have been very disappointed). If these 2010's are available at your local store; I suggest you go buy some more. The 2007, '08, and '09 are drinking beautifully as well. The 2011 comes across as watery in comparison. Cheers!

A little disapointed. Not impresive at all. Maybe at $50 it would be a good buy, but for $100+ I think the Far Niente is a little bit expensive

2009 Opus One Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend

Rich nose of cassis, smoky rubber and a touch of liqueur. Very soft, rather full bodied, very polished. Bitter chocolate, plums, oak, tobacco on the palate. Spicy finish, highish alcohol. Very persistent, concentrated, fruity, spicy aftertaste, very tannic. A joker at a Bdx tasting, this was quite obviously a NW.

7/20/13, 9:02 PM - All wine tastes of its native terroir. If you don't appreciate new world wine, why on earth would you fork over the cash for Opus in the first place? Opus One is a Bordeaux style wine; it still taste like a California wine - a very good California wine!

Nice light bodied port. Ready to drink right now. I wouldn't hold on to this one much longer. If you have a bottle of this, drink it now! Aroma of raspberries, plum/prunes, and soft leather. Very smooth; to the point of seeming more like a late-harvest wine than a port. Nice, but not great...

5/20/13, 9:35 AM - I first tasted this in 2007 - Much bigger then. This port has aged well so far, but I really cannot stress enough the importance of drinking any of this you may have now. This isn't going to get any better.

We blind tasted this wine against 4 other Napa Valley Cabernets. Unfortunately, it scored the lowest - even against the $7 Sutter Home Cab. Maybe, it was too young or needed more air. The flavors seem muted and the wine was too tannic. Unfortunately, it was not a hit at the party.

5/5/13, 6:32 PM - Scored lower then Sutter Home? Maybe you just like cheap wine... :(

The bouquet of this wine leaps from the glass the moment it is poured; dark cherries, kirsh, and current. The wine is incredibly well structured; layers of flavor beginning with bright red cherries, and cranberries; firm, well integrated tannins with near perfect balance. No alcohol flavor. The finish is long and complex; culminating with an essence of coconut I have never tasted in a red wine.
Next day: Wine is still layered and nicely complex; mellowed a little, beautiful legs. Has lost the coconut aspect. Lighter body than first day; very smooth. Will age beautifully; but is absolutely drinkable now!

4/15/13, 7:27 PM - I don't normally buy $200 bottles of wine, but I will buy Opus again. This wine really impressed me!

Wicked corked. Bummer.
