Moderate but pleasant nose. This is a very well made wine. Well balanced, complex, nice acid.

1/29/24, 6:49 PM - It is not hugely tannic but I would guess it has at least 2-5 years before it would be an issue.

This bottle was close to room temperature which definitely didn't help. Bitter and hot with alcohol, this had flavors of arugula, black pepper, blackberry and pomegranate with a hint of tobacco/ginger. No noticable oak. Perhaps with more cellar time and at cellar temperature this will be easier to enjoy. Poor qpr at $27 unless this develops.

1/28/24, 4:02 PM - Hope your other bottles are as good as the one I just drank.

Sweet flowery nose. A bit sweet and acidic but good with pasta.

Pulled from the wine fridge thinking it was a Rhone based on the bottle shape, and while it certainly isn't, it shares a common rusticity. My wife complained it was too grapey, but I didn't find that to be the case. Tuberose, earth, licorice, plum/blackberry, dried herbs, singed fruit leather. Plenty of juicy acidity and the tannins have a solid astringency to them quite unlike chalky Rhone tannins. Drank great with outdoor grilled chicken and there may be some upside to holding.

5/7/23, 4:49 PM - I hope my other bottle is like you describe.

Has a great nose of concrete, wood smoke and bay leaf but the palate is disappointingly hot and sweet with plum, strawberry jam and tar. Strawberry licorice on the finish. Passable, but I'll look to serve to casual drinkers.
  • Jmac56 commented:

3/28/23, 4:08 PM - Try another bottle- mine first bottle was quite good. A bit light on the finish.

Light floral woodsy nose. Overly acidic with some chalk and tannins.
  • Jmac56 commented:

4/8/22, 3:41 PM - Wine is actually much more balanced a day later.

Minimal nose. A bit too acidic for the nice fruit to show through.
  • Jmac56 commented:

2/9/22, 3:28 PM - On the second day, this wine opened up and was not nearly as acidic. Usually Burgundies get much worse??

I found the '18 full of promise but this was both tart and grapey and without much to recommend. Could be in a dumb phase or just suck.
  • Jmac56 commented:

1/31/22, 4:16 PM - I hope it was just a bad bottle. My first bottle was good.

Classic Mourvèdre nose. Jammy fruit and nice acid. Medium to full bodied.

1/19/22, 2:51 PM - Very drinkable but still a bit young. Worth holding for another year.

Sweet fruity floral nose. Medium bodied wine, very enjoyable but not exciting.

9/20/21, 4:55 PM - I must add that this wine was better (and becoming a bit exciting) two days after opening.

Classic flavors of tobacco, tart red cherries and dusty horse blanket, but this bottle was unpleasantly disjointed, even with air and food. Hot and bitter, hoping just bottle variation based on the good reviews from others, but some cellar time couldn't hurt.
  • Jmac56 commented:

7/8/21, 4:53 PM - I totally agree. Maybe we got bad bottles.

Wonderful earthy nose. Still well balanced and full. A classic Zinfandel. Throwing a lot of sediment but should be good for several more years.

May be a bad bottle. Past its prime. Acidic, but drinkable.
  • Jmac56 commented:

11/19/20, 3:06 PM - Had some left 2 days later and it was much more enjoyable. Surprising improvement. Maybe a 88-89 now. Not sure what this means about when you should drink this.

A bit frissante. Nice but paled when compared to the 2016. Maybe it will improve with age.
  • Jmac56 commented:

11/15/20, 7:10 AM - I think you may be right. The sparkle faded away. I wish I had more 2016- and what happened to the 2017 and 2018?

Red

I just wanted to add to my initial tasting note the presence of some greener flavors, both minty and smooth and also bitter and savory. Depending on the amount of air they strengthen or receed. 3 hours of air seems to be a tasty drinking window.
  • Jmac56 commented:

11/1/20, 4:30 PM - I had a little left after an hour and the tannins really opened up and the wine is more full bodied. Very interesting.

Out of the bottle lots of sulphur which mostly blew off after 45 minutes. Cassis, rhubarb and burnt matchstick, but the flavors are not clear, they come across as mostly just sweet, sour and bitter. For the same price I could be drinking St. Cosme (also 100% Syrah) which is much more interesting and several points better. Drinkable, certainly, but a pass.
