The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. You can find similar or better Cabernets much better than Don Melchor at half the Price,

3/24/14, 1:47 PM - 120$ per bottle!?!?... that's very very very expensive!! I paid 46$ per bottle in Denmark, which is a very expensive country in general.

Red
2009 Jacopo Biondi-Santi Sassoalloro Toscana IGT Sangiovese
Nose is tight, with some dark red(ish) berry fruit, some toast, cigarbox
Not a lot of stuff going on, and smells a bit grapey
Palate has texture but appears thin, flavors are diluted with some red cherry, grape flavor, adequate acid and slightly bitter tannins.
Finish is short. A barely average bottle of wine, in lack of character. 13/20

2/10/14, 10:38 AM - Sorry about the low comment. It's just because I have had several bottles of this wine both from the 2009 vintage, and others as well. And I can't recognize anything you write about this wine. The fact that you don't write anything about the overwhelming penetrating sweet liquorice aroma this wine got (in all vintages I have tried) made me very perplexed about your review. Maybe you have had a faulty bottle!? Anyways - just wanted to say sorry about my first comment. R.B.K

Tough crowd. This is an excellent wine before considering price; for $13 it is a steal. A complex and enjoyable mix of bramble fruit, black pepper, smoked meat, violets, graphite, and oak. Firm tannins, lively acidity. Nicely balanced. Drinking well now, but it can age more with positive results. I don't remember Côtes du Rhône being this good.

2/9/14, 1:36 AM - I agree with you - compared to the price it's an absolute steal. And then I want to recommend you a wine, because what you said about Côtes du Rhône. Try this one - it's a little more expensive, but an absolute stellar Côtes du Rhône: Coudoulet de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône 2010. In Europe it sells for 25 dollars per bottle (750ml).

Much more outspoken today, feel a little bit sorry for the first bottle, what happened there?

2/3/14, 5:48 AM - Try this one again in 2018 - It really needs that much time to open up!! It will be 91-93 points in 2018 - that's my prediction at least. ;-) I tried it a couple of days ago at a tasting - and we all agreed that it just needs time.
