2014 White Rose Estate Pinot Noir Guillen Vineyard Dundee Hills

Tasted at the winery. The vineyard is 16 years old at the top of a beautiful Hill with a gorgeous view at 870' elevation. The wine is 13.5% ABV. It is a light to medium ruby color. The nose is a bit reticent, I think because the wine bottle was just opened. It had roses, light red cherry and slight scent of fresh mushroom. On the palate it was bright and vibrant with medium to high acidity, medium tannin and the palate was nicely balanced with the cherry, roses and a hint of earthy elements. I think this wine will be much better in a few years and with some serious breathing.

12/11/18, 6:28 PM - Great comment. You nailed it. We’re drinking a bottle now at Flemmings a Steak House with our appetizer of calimari. Our bottle was out of the cellar for an hour and we poped and poured when we sat down. Nose was as you said but opened in 10 minutes. Thanks for the review. FCS

2011 Nickel & Nickel Syrah Darien Vineyard Russian River Valley

This was a full bodied, very flavorful Syrah. Dark purple with a slight tar accent in the nose mixed with strong fruit. Decanted for 2 hours before dinner. Tannin seems soft and/or well integrated for the 2011 year. Slight acidity with lots a fruit on the mid palate and a touch of oak throughout. Well integrated flavors with additional factors make this a wonderfully complex wine. We drank it because my literature had a 2019 "drink by" date on it. However, those of us that drank it last night thought that it had a great chance of lasting much longer than 2019. We enjoyed this with steak, chicken and salmon and compared very well with a 1993 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape that was soft, delicious and well integrated.

2015 Château Latour à Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend

This wine has been getting better and better since the 2009 vintage, and 2015 is no exception. Fresh, silky and round, it serves up sweet, ripe, polished cherries and an earthy persona. The finish kicks in nicely with layers of black raspberries anointed with a bit of spice. 92 - 94 Pts

10/30/17, 5:48 PM - Jeff:Thanks for your terrific and consistent commentary. Do you think the 2015 Chateau Latour a' Pomerol should wait til the suggested 2022 to begin drinking? Personally, we love the youthfulness of these wines as long as the tannins have started to integrate. What is your choice? THX
