12/21/21, 1:59 PM - Hi Carolin. CT operate the standard Parker 100 point scoring system for wines where each wine is given a score for each element of the wine. All wines start with a base score of 50. 80 points would represent a relatively poor wine in this instance. Please see below.Potential ScoreIt's Wine - everyone gets this 50Color and appearance How does the wine look, optics 5Aroma and bouquet What the nose perceives, complexity 15Flavor and finish What you taste and how long the finish lasts 20Overall quality A subjective factor on the integrated experience 10Total Available 100Hope this helps.
12/22/21, 2:01 AM - Hi Carolyn.Sorry if it came across as being pedantic it’s just that this is what everyone uses when they rate wines so everyone is on the same page.I happen to agree with you though that the ratings to tend to come out far too top heavy. There are certain wine critics (James Suckling for one) who rate everything so highly as to be borderline meaningless. You can of course use what ever system suits you to help you differentiate between what you like and don’t. I suspect most of us have our own methods of doing the same anyway!Happy drinking!
