Hennepin Lake Tasting 2018; 10/11/2018-10/14/2018 (Minneapolis, MN): Terrible wine. One of the worst wines of the year candidate. If you are into Orin Swift wines you slam them and don't smell and move the wine in your mouth. Overripe fruit and no acidity. I am not sure how a pro critic could give this above an 85. I will take over for you if you did.

10/14/18, 10:24 AM - Just tasted this. My friend was pouring for us at the distributor. Since I am not rude aIr pulled him aside and told him not showing well give it a decant. Which he did. A couple hours later the wine really opened up. If these crybaby rants are indicative of 3 days of tasting you should do yourself a favor and call it quits. What a professional

10/14/18, 12:32 PM - I love humor. Out at J. Christopher on a beautiful day as we speak. Getting to meet some winemakers I wonder if they would appreciate this guys public candor. Not all wines are my style. I appreciate the craft these artisans make. It's easy to take pot shots on the internet

10/14/18, 5:33 PM - My private reviews would make you laugh. I don't know to what degree you have been scoring wines. Never heard of you like most of the world. Do what you want. I wouldn't publicly review a wine on a spit at a tasting. I taste over a thousand wines a year just don't feel the need to share every sip with the world

10/16/18, 9:16 AM - Hey buddy posting on here a and other forums seems like a really big deal to you. I don't post much why would I join another forum? You link your business to these tasting notes. You promote drinking wine over 3 days and say people drink wine too young. Practice what you preach when giving a score that does get melded with professional scores on wine-searcher.com.

Popped open a bottle 10 minutes ago. Gotta get to the bottom of this wine to accurately describe it, so I'll let decant for 2 hrs before tasting. Will get back with notes later plus rating.
2 Hrs has arrived, poured to 4 guest, with 3 Filets off the pitt, and one 16oz pork chop, with a steens creole demi-glace. Tony, "Wow, that's good", Barbara, "Wow, this is delicious, I'll take 6 bottles, Vic, " this is good, Lisa hadn't tasted yet. Now, I tried with a taste of filet, which was good, but with the pork chop, "Wow", not a big WOW!, but enough of a wow. Now, I can understand some saying that they've gotten palate fatigue, and the alcohol, was too prevalent, which I may have to agree, but by giving this wine more time in the bottle or a long decant should help the process of the alcohol to integrating. Now I'd give it a 91.5. Two years from now 92-93

10/14/18, 6:19 PM - I was fortunate enough to get a sample bottle of this. I also had the pleasure to it at a wine steward meeting. Based off my first taste and taking again a couple hours later off decant I can't agree more with your note. It is a 2017 after all. Needs time but will still be a big slutty wine which I appreciate from time to time. Better than Machete in my opinion

Hennepin Lake Tasting 2018; 10/11/2018-10/14/2018 (Minneapolis, MN): I am not a fan. This is simple wine below A to Z. Thin and light. Not much going on and if a critic likes this wine they should be fired.

Vinturi aerated and decanted for 90 minutes.
Pleasant nose of black cherry and some plum. Noticeable heat from the 14% alcohol.
Delicate cherry notes on the palate, thin mouthfeel , slightly drying with a short finish.
An underwhelming effort with a poor QPR. How to handle the remaining 5 bottles? Perhaps even more aeration.

8/8/18, 9:02 PM - Willamette Valley pinot noir likes to shut down and hide. Aka "dumb phase" I would wait 6 months to a year before you open another bottle. I had 3 bottles the first wasn't ready. The second was awesome. Probably going to open my third in last bottle in February next year or wait til 2020. I hope 2 out of 3 bottles make me happy!

Compared 3 bottles of 2013 to a single bottle of 2015 - latter is gorgeous with crisp and complex citrus fruit up front and a finish of granite and flint - simply beautiful and an outstanding chablis/burgundian style chardonnay. Each of the 3 bottles of 2013 is variably corked with an unappealing nose and dank/musty finish - the 2013 bottles we sampled are a waste of money that reflects poorly on the 2015 release.
  • pdxpinotlover commented:

5/13/18, 8:20 PM - Why did you score a flawed wine? Just comment that the bottle was corked. It happens. No score needed. Did you still drink it?

Underwhelming for such anticipation and promotion.

3/16/18, 7:15 AM - I have had this wine a handful of times in the last year. One of the times it was closed down like a turtle in its shell. All the other times it was stunning. Had same experience with Veuve Vintage rose. I guess Champagne can go to sleep similar to pinot noir experiences I've had.

No need to buy again . Not worth the $25 price plus it just didn’t taste good, may have been corked

Let stand for a month before opening.
Initial pour had color of translucent blood. Slight brown edges.
It's bouquet had big fruit of plum and musty grassy leaves soaked in an old wooden barrel.
On the palate I was expecting big fruit but to my pleasure had no sweetness: It was bone dry, salty savory. As it opened up and the rare ribeye consumed the flavor of tobacco and tar emerged. Crushed rocks and asphalt were a joy to imbibe. The finish was spicey with a carribean type bite of island heat. I counted 40 seconds of interesting evolution of finish taking a dry mineral spice into a touch of banana peel end.
Excellent real wine.
8/10
With wines like this to be imported at such a low price, why ever try a Cali wine and roll the dice on manipulated tastes? I swear, almost EVERY time I buy Cali I'm disappointed and feel ill at imbibing deleterious chemicals. (I'm talking about the supposedly good $50+ wholesale types, such as Mondavi) Wine should NEVER make you feel sick or give hangover!
Real wine will uplift and give vitality. The next day make you feel refreshed and energized. Real wine is medicine: good for your health!

Not good. Tart sour finish. No trace of fruit at this point.

Will be marching this back to the store. But will keep one bottle for future to see if it goes anywhere. I like a cheap sparkling rose from Niagara Canada Better than this. No flavor and small nose.

11/12/17, 6:32 PM - I too would say you had a flawed bottle I have been fortunate enough to drink a few times over the last 6 months. Not the best bottle of bubbles I've ever had but really nice. I have a couple and will probably pop one over the holidays

Anniversary dinner at El Gaucho. My second bottle was so much better than my first. Dark raspberries and such a silky mouthful. Everything in this wine is coming together. I still think I will wait a couple years on my last bottle.
  • pdxpinotlover commented:

2/16/17, 8:37 AM - The lady and I both had steak El Gaucho which is filet mignon top with Bearnaise sauce and lobster with side of gratin potatoes. Started with escargot and finished with bananas foster. Pinot and filet typically do well together I would say this combo did. I went a little too rich on choices. Lastly decanted the wine on arrival probably took 45 minutes to hit its stride

Totally unimpressed with this wine. The wife picked up at Costco and I didn't get exact price but she said it was over $30. For this price point I can think of SO many more I would rather have. My initial scent was burnt match. The wife was trying to identify and I explained the burnt match or sulfur I was getting, often the same as rotten eggs. She replied "yes, rotten eggs, that's it!" Obviously not a good start. It did taste better than it smelled but she couldn't finish her glass and opened another bottle. In a nutshell, won't be trying this one again.
  • pdxpinotlover commented:

2/15/17, 12:10 PM - What you are describing is a wine fault or flaw. Sorry you had a flawed bottle but that is the breaks. Should have tried to return it instead of give it a score. You have the option to mark as flawed on CT.
