2016 Monte Rio Cellars North Coast Syrah Russian River Valley
6/26/2020 - seagullwine Likes this wine:
90 points
Pours dark magenta fading to crimson at rim.
N - Plum, pomegranate juice, green peppercorn, caperberry, fresh violet, running over a mint plant with a lawn mower.
P - Blackberry, blackcap, cranberry sauce, pepper, clove oil, stems.
Bright, elevated acidity and prominent tannins that are finally resolving. Still very fresh and aromatic, but time is taming the stalky tannins nicely. Better now than 6 months ago.

Red
2006 Tenuta Corte Pavone Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Rich, firm, and distinguished, this is the sort of wine that sits in red leather chairs in a British gentleman's club and discusses peerages. Slightly sanguine, with flavors of plum, black cherry and pomegranate, and hints of cigar ash and earth; could pass for an Aglianico. The tannins are rich and mouth-filling, but very fine and pleasing. This wine was made with consummate skill, and while ready to drink now (with a decant), it has many years of life left. Fine stuff, impressive with or without food.
