Decanted and allowed to open up and breath. This made all the difference. The characteristics of the wine came into balance and any smokiness was no longer detectable. I didn't do that with the first bottle that I opened and was noticeably different. Decant! And give it some time. You will be rewarded

As far as pinots are concerned, this is surprisingly BIG, full pallet. Silky and Balanced - Fruit, spice with light earthiness. Very enjoyable right now.

Has 'everything'. Spice, berry, full palette. Everything going on. Drinkable now. May age well for a few more years?

A tad acidic when not paired with food. Paired with my solid red wine meaty spagetti sauce, it was quite good. It is a little big, with a slight note of sweetness, a little heavy with the tanins and bold ripe cherry. Not dry, but not fruit forward. No pepper, but with everything else you expect.
