2017 Pax Syrah Sonoma Hillsides Russian River Valley
11/25/2023 - Drunkuncle Does not like this wine:
50 points
Crap. Sour and basically undrinkable. Multiple bottles like this. Opened a bottle of the 2020 North Coast as well, and it was disappointingly similar. I remember loving Pax wines before he split with the Donelans - they were Lucious and inky Syrahs. These were something else. I don’t envision buying any more.

12/15/23, 5:29 AM - 3 day wine review: I think flawed best describes a single bad bottle, not 3. I was on the PAX mailing list in the mid 2000’s and know what good wine he can make and has made. My review was perhaps harsh but was driven by frustration and disappointment based on long experience and prior satisfaction. There are numerous other negative comments regarding this wine / vintage. So cool your jets, Junior Jeb Dunnuck and understand this not the wine spectator and you are not Robert Parker. I hope YOU enjoy your next bottle of the Prisoner.

12/19/23, 6:14 PM - Ok, 3daywinereview, I will try to take CellarTracker reviews more seriously. But reread my comment- I was expecting much more from a winemaker whose wines I’ve liked in the past. I literally poured out three bottles. And while 50 is low, your review at 95 points day 1 and, in your words 50 day 3, suggests I might not be far off. In general I think wine scoring is overinflated and is in reality maybe a 20 point scoring system. I used 50 to make a point, and it was done in the heat of disappointment. I apologize.
