2013 Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Materium Oakville
Man, I wanted to like this as much as everyone else has, but it just wasn't the best Materium I have had whether from the moment of PnP to an 8-hour decant (2007 and 2008 were my favs of all time). I think I am jaded by all of the Schrader and Bevan CS that I have enjoyed over the years. My problem, not yours!

I still have several bottles and will revisit over the next few years. I also scored the equivalent of 11 bottles of the 2014 vintage, so there will definitely be a taste-off at some point!

Incredible concentration, intensity and fruit, but without any elegance or sophistication. I don't like to denegrate other tasters notes, but this is simply an overblown fruit-bomb. Massively rich and ripe with all the complexity of a Luden's cherry cough drop. The tasters who scored this in the mid-90's+ apparently have very little appreciation of anything other than massive fruit. Winemaker should be hanged in effigy ... or worse.

Bordeaux Confidential SF (SF): Clear, bright, dark red with some ruby and dark garnet.
On the nose, it’s pretty bretty with some savory earth character. A little ripe, plummy fruit - warmer/riper fruit than ’06. Alcohol is slightly elevated [14%]. Much more extracted than ’06, more acidity. Tart dried cherries. Much better - quite primary. Youthful to developing.
Score: between 8.5 and 9.

5/28/15, 6:12 PM - I gave it a 92, I was actually disappointed given it was a 100 point wine. Maybe I tried it too early.

Slightly subdued nose compared to the 05 le gay, but the taste was incredible. Ripe blueberry, some astringency, long finish and some grainy tannins.

Surprisingly approachable, this will be stellar to those who are patient.
