Another disapointing Rhys wine. Corked at a low level and tasted okay. Corked wines from Rhys has been the norm for me. Very disappointing.

11/29/23, 4:18 PM - Did you buy this directly from Rhys? I have had many many Rhys wines and I have never had a corked bottle. Not to say that you didn't or can't get one, as it does happen. If you purchased it from them directly , you might want to reach out to them to discuss it, perhaps they will offer a replacement? If you did not buy it from them, perhaps you should go to the store you are purchasing from and bring it to their attention.

No decant. Delicious. I don't know what Laube was drinking to come up with an 82.

Decant 90 minutes; initial espresso nose quickly blew off...rebottle for transit to restaurant (Merriman's in Kamuela on Hawai'i's Big Island). A good bit of sediment fell out of this opaque, dark violet juice; slight bricking just beginning to present itself. Following a second 90-minutes of slow-ox, beautiful plum/dark fruit nose with restrained notes of sweet tobacco and cherry, with a smooth and 'under'bearing forest floor presence. Actually quite soft and feminine for a Pauillac; wonderfully balanced with a delightfully-long finish. I know the tannin reserve will carry this wine for years, but you sure can't taste or sense it: no mouth-puckering or astringency of any kind. Fruit pushed into mid-palate late. Just wonderful right now! However, I am puzzled by the many tasters who describe a licorice or anise presence in this wine, 'cos I simply never pick that up...

3/28/13, 10:37 AM - When I went to Merrimans a few years ago I was unaware they couldn't serve my open bottle that I decanted. So I went to the parking lot and jammed the cork back in and magically it was not a problem. Thanks for the great review!
