2009 Marcel Cabelier Château-Chalon Savagnin
This wine has an odd look and comes in an unusual size. I'd read notes where the flavour was not to everyones taste.
I took it out the fridge about 3 hours before serving and opened it an hour later. Serving temperature around 14C. It has a bit of a sherry or port aroma, it is strong for a chardonnay at 14.5%. (and as has been pointed out that's because it's not!) It's Savagnin. No idea why I thought it was chardonnay.
It was drunk with large portions of mature Comté cheese. The initial taste is quite off putting almost like wine vinegar, but as it lingers in the mouth it opens out to a quite long and pleasant aftertaste. After a few sips you get used to the initial taste. It complemented the strong cheese really well. Being from much the same region we'd hoped that would be the case.
Not a wine for regular drinking but I'd have it again with the cheese or perhaps a chicken dish with a strong sauce.

7/19/20, 10:13 AM - Thanks forceberry. Geant Casino's Sept 2019 catalogue had a Cote-du-Jura chardonnay from the same producer beside this on the page. I must have made the assumption from that.

7/23/20, 4:18 AM - I'm not. I think that was the 2nd I'd ever bought. But this does exist: https://www.vivino.com/marcel-cabelier-cotes-du-jura-vieilles-vignes-chardonnay/w/2574983?year=2015. Geant Casino were selling it at €5.95 last September. I didn't buy any.
