Red
2013 Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge Vineyard Ribbon Ridge
Really tight and grumpy when first opened. Put the cork in it after a small pour and back in the cellar in went. Two days later, wow what a difference. Firing on all cylinders. Crunchy Rainer cherries, cranberries, pomegranate. Herbal and woodsy with licorice root and Rabarbaro.

Closure: DIAM 10
ABV: 13.0%
Stem: Grassl Cru
Decant: n/a, but consumed 48 hours after the bottle was opened.

6/22/23, 3:48 PM - @getfuzzy - Thanks. I prefer the smokier Sfumato over Zucca's sweeter version, though both are interesting to try. Adding a bit of it to a Jungle Bird is always a personal favourite of mine

Red
2017 Yann Bertrand Fleurie Cuvée du Chaos Gamay
An easy drinking Beaujolais. Loads of just ripe, crunchy red fruits. Strawberries, cherries, raspberries. Light bodied, Med plus acidity, and a relatively short finish. This doesn’t have the depth of most 2019s from Yann I’ve tasted, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you're looking for something to drink now. This feels like it’s meant to just be a clean, easy drinking and versatile wine, which I appreciate. Most of the 2019s from Yann while more complex need time. This is drinking really well now.

ABV: 13%
Closure type: Natural cork
Stem: Grassl Liberte
Decant: N/A

12/5/21, 6:23 PM - @oxidatif: No. The note is indeed for the '17 version of the wine. At the wine I was drinking through the 2019 Yann Bertrand lineup as well, so I had those in mind and was comparing this to those.

Well Dern! I knew there was a problem right away. The wine was cloudy as heck, with tons of crystals in the bottom, with a good amount of sediment going on as well. I only had cooled the wine for a few hours. This was not browned, but fairly advanced, with apple cider, and apple juice traits!! Too bad!

12/4/21, 6:58 AM - Bummer. When my wines arrived, I did notice a good amount of fine lees and some larger sediment in the Chard. It's on my queue of wines to check out, I'll have to bump it up to check it out soon. I'll stand it upright to let that all settle. Hopefully it shows well

Three blind dN Pinots: Red fruit, a bit of tutti fruity bubblegum on the nose. All ripe red fruit on the palate. Not quite the acid, tannins and structure that I like in a PN.

Bright red fruited. On the nose a lot more floral and bright with some herbal parsley and mint notes. On the palate high acid and out of balance. Is this the low O2 corks Cam used and it's still shut down?

ABV: dN website noted 13.6%, bottle notes 14.2%. Definitely feels closer to 13.5%
Decant: 30min
Stem: Gabriel Glas StandArt

7/26/21, 7:59 AM - Nikki-No particular reason. Very simply just because one had more time to breathe than the other. One I opened up, did a quick decant, and it was consumed almost immediately, the other had more time to breathe while the first was being consumed.

de Negoce Cabs: Really Hard to analyse at first. Lots of reductive, flinty notes at the start that overwhelmed most of the nose. Even after ~2h it didn’t seem to blow off yet. Six hours in it managed to blow off thankfully. At the start on the palate it felt like it was the better integrated wines on the palate than the others tasted, which after the longer decant I continue to stand by. Really dark and rich. Dense and concentrated fruit. Blackberry, cassis, some earthy notes. Really lively and bright. Fine grained tannins. My favourite Cab of the four tasted. Drinkable now with a long 6h+ decant, though as with all of these Cabs, I suspect they’ll reward those with patience more. I’m looking forward to trying this one in the future.

ABV: 14.9%

4/30/21, 3:19 PM - SCM- Glad you’ve found the reviews helpful.

I don’t have much experience using the Riedel Somm Series, so I can’t comment on the differences between it and the Grassl. The Grassl Liberte has quickly become a favourite of mine. I find that most wines are able to show well in it and I love how it feel in the hand. It is now my go to universal glass. My previous universal glasses were the Grabrel-Glass StardArt. They’re cheaper and sturdier, which is useful for clumsy guests so I still use them. The Grassl Vigneron series glasses go on sale about once a year or so, so if you’re patient you can grab them then. They also have a more affordable and durable like of glasses called the Elemental Series which includes a universal style glass called the Versatile, which looks similar to the Liberte and about the same price as the Gabriel-Glas StandArt, but I haven’t tried those
