Italian Wine Scholar class at the Texas Wine School. Pale ruby with a garnet rim. Med (+) nose of red plum, cranberries, roses, violets, earth, herbs, and a hint of coffee and sweet spice thanks to 20 mos in very large French oak casks. Dry, with med acidity, med alcohol (13.5%) and med tannins. Med (+) flavor intensity, body and length, with a savory, mineral finish. This Schiava is on steroids. It is bottled as a VdT because it blows through the Santa Magdalena appellation rules. Drinking well in 2020 but quite a bit more tertiary in 2021. Drink now.

10/27/22, 9:03 PM - Your review is spot on. I purchased in 6/2020, Coravin’ in 7/2020, then forgot about it until today, 10/2022. The wine still lives, and it still lives up to your description. It is drinking like really good Cru Beaujolais or regional red Burgundy right now. I was pleasantly surprised!

Our favorite sparkling wine. Apples, citrus, lemon and bakery notes. Crisp and clean with plenty of acidity and efference. Solid Oregon wine that we have enjoyed over many vintages.

7/11/21, 7:35 PM - This is my first bottle of Argyle sparkling, but I 100% agree with your review. So much so, in fact, that I went through and read your other reviews since you are clearly an authority on this wine. This happened to be my first Oregon sparkler, and I feel lucky. In another of your reviews, you described it as a dead ringer for entry level champagne. Another note with which I couldn’t agree more.
I also appreciate the addition of the small percentage of Pinot Meunier. It (along with the Pinot Noir) really rounds out the flavor and balances the acidity. I can see why it’s your house sparkling!
