2014 Antonio Vallana e Figlio Gattinara Nebbiolo
Gorgeous and incredible QPR. Garnet core with lots of orange highlights. Nose is not super expressive yet, but shows tart cherry, some light leather, dried roses and lavender, menthol, and mountain herbs. The wine has medium body, high+ acidity, high+ tannin and a very long, fresh finish. The palate has loads of tart cherry, bursting florals, light leather, menthol, dried herbs, and a hint of baking spice - there is really tremendous depth here and I feel like I’m barely scratching the surface. The wine shows a lot of development already but the tannins and acidity are still roaring, this must have decades left in it. I’ll be seeking out more!
