It is a lovely, simple, "any-tuesday" Pinot noir. Probably deserves 82-84 p, but as I remember it this bottle was less inspiring than pervious ones of the same vintage.
Also 80 is not a poor wine.
80 - 89: This wine is above average, which has very good attributes of finesse and flavor.

There is a tendency towards inflation in scoring. It's hard to balance that and still do the wine justice.
