PnP. A little earthy at first, though that quickly dissipated. Medium bodied. Dark fruit flavors. Put on weight and flavor with air.

10/3/22, 5:54 PM - It was pull and pour - no air time. Drank it with Doritos while watching Sunday afternoon football with neighbors, so didn’t really savor it like I’d usually expect to do with a Pride cab. In any case, as a 2016, it’s too young in my book.

From a magnum, this was surprisingly tannic. After @45 minutes in a decanter, the tannins started to soften. Beautiful dark fruits nose, followed by flavors of dark fruits, roses, and some leather. My only bottle, but if I had more I’d decant for 3-4 hours or keep it cellared for 5-10 more years.

7/30/21, 4:50 AM - I received the magnum (in wooden box) as a gift in 2006. It’s been stored at @57 degrees ever since. I see there is some 2001 Serpico on Winebid - I’m tempted to pick up another bottle to see how my bottle compares.

7/30/21, 10:31 AM - Interestingly, I see WA’s original review from 2004 (Thomases) gave it a 98 and said it’s a “30-year wine” with a drinking window through 2034. In 2010, WA posted a subsequent review (Galloni) giving it a 92+ that indicates it was aging faster than expected, greatly shortening the recommended drinking window (through 2023). Time for them to do a present-day Serpico retrospective!
