June 19, 2022 - My last btl was almost a decade ago. This has lost some weight but taken on character. Still large and powerful (16% EtOH OMG!) but nuanced with notes of tobacco, dried flowers, black cherry, and some figgy PX notes. While it is showing some age, this easily has another 20 years in the tank. This remains very serious juice, screams of character, and is super fun to drink. Having said that, I am not sure I will go in for more 5 stelle for this simple reason... The sfursato technique is a way to get Barolo-like power out of the otherwise nervous northern neb. I, in fact, really like the higher acid lower alcohol astringent nature of northern nebs (be it from Valtellina or Alto Piemonte), and when I want wines that taste like Barolo or Barbaresco, I simply drink those. This wine is also pretty pricey. So I will continue to enjoy the Valtellina Superiore wines I have from the various areas (Grumello, Inferno, etc) and probably stick with that.

February 22, 2020 - No exception to the many good experiences in the past, this Cinquestelle boasts depth, elegance and charme. Medium to full bodied, with lots of sweetness, cedar, tobacco, chocolate, truffle, cinnamon, with a long, rewarding finish. Yet not reaching the glory of the 1996, my personal benchmark.

    December 8, 2018 - Short note.
    In a very good place.
Nose with herbs, licorice, leather, tobacco and ripe dark cherry fruit.
Palate is mature, sweet ripe cherries, licorice, leather and a fine acidity for a nice finish.
Perhaps a bit more alcohol is showing than in previous bottles, with the fruit falling off, still within boundaries and a good companion to the Porchetta I had for dinner tonight.
Best vintage I have had of this wine, final bottle from my cellar.

On the palate: Violet, licorice, chocolate, plum, leather with a distinct alcohol tone. Fine balanced acidity and tannins.
    Long finish
