Community Tasting Notes 3

May 4, 2019 - Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of light ruby colour, with fading garnet rim and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium intensity aromas of red fruit of cherries, plum and raspberry, floral notes of violet, animal notes of gamey, mineral notes of earth, maturity notes of savory. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium tannin of ripe and velvety texture, medium alcohol, medium body, with medium (+) flavours of red fruit of cherries and raspberry, mineral notes of earth, oak notes of cedar, herbal notes of black tea. The wine has a long finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Bourgogne Grand Cru, still young, the nose is reasonably intense with decent complexity, the palate is however much more appealing, with an elegant yet robust structure, well-balanced and demonstrating nice finesse on the flavours, with good concentration and a very long finish. It is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 5-7 years.

October 12, 2018 - bright light red color, faint buttery nose- very much in hiding at present, on the palate quite firm and closed down, there is a lovely ripe cherry and red berry fruit here which is wonderfully elegant but also still a whisper- one can sense the great depth but it is not readily evident, ripe but not quite to the extent of the Clos Saint Denis, it was actually fascinating to have a small sample of this alongside our bottle of the 2009 Clos Saint Denis because it illustrates why Bonnes-Mares has so long been under-appreciated, the wine just demands a lot of bottle age and will show very little of itself until time has worked its magic, for now a very austere and lean showing- but everything is here for this to be quite good once it reveals its full depth and aromatic profile. (****)+, 2025-2055 and frankly 2025 might even be too soon.

January 27, 2015 - NR (so shut down as to not be evaluated), on nights one and two this was completely shut down with zero on the palate, maybe a hint of oak, and not much more on the nose, on night three at the end there was a little rubber ball on the nose and a hint of cherry with a bitter (nice bitter?) finishing element, maybe this comes out of the cave but i'd bet on the 2010 version every day of the week
