  September 1, 2019 - Sunday wines and not wines (Chicago, IL): Awesome stuff; this was a better showing of this wine than the bottle we had a few months ago. Incredibly aromatic with some herbal tones on the nose, followed by a bit of petrol and some yellow fruit as well. The palate is fairly herbal, and the fruit isn't prominent. Very well integrated with softer acidity and a nice earthy element too.

  June 17, 2019 - Dinner at Pizzeria Bebu (Chicago, IL): I can't escape the thought that this bottle was ever-so-slightly corked. No one else picked it up, but I've been hyper sensitive to it, and I have had a big slew of corked riesling in the last few months. In any case, this was slightly mute on the nose and dilute on the palate, but air seemed to give this more and more heft. The "TCA" never really got worse with the evening, but this just never really came around for me. As an aside, I picked up more of the corky notes on the palate than on the nose.

  April 26, 2014 - Oh, wow. This is absolutely stunning. It has the bracing precision and dryness of CFE, but still shows a fair bit of fruit with fresh pear, tart apple and citrus flavours at the core accented by a vivid mineral character and savoury smoky and burnished elements. There's great complexity and purity to the flavours, remarkable length and it's a really compelling wine to sit down with.

It has remarkable vigor for its age with what would normally be extreme acidity but for the solid core of fruit. It is bone dry, though, with apple, lime, just a hint of peach and saline flavors. Delineated, complex and while mature, there's no reason to believe properly stored bottles won't provide great pleasure with more age on them. Solid A-.

Unfortunately, this reeked of the library, with a musty, old paper quality. There was some discussion of whether it was corked, but whether it was or wasn't, it did not have the purity of the other wines. Not without redeeming qualities, though-lean, lime fruit, and dry essence of Riesling. Ironically, 2 other bottles I've had that did not come from the domain showed better than this one did. Whatever the problem is, it is important to say that it is NOT a matter of the wine being too old.
