October 31, 2012 - Luminous neon yellow color. Heavily oaked nose with aromas of nutty oak, some vanilla, pungent spiciness and a hint of grapefruit-driven citrus fruit and some red apple - due to the overwhelming oak character the nose lacks freshness completely. The palate is quite full-bodied with richness and power similar to the nose; however, the palate is also surprisingly acid-driven and light, showing freshness the nose lacked. The oak is pretty noticeable with flavors of roasted nuttiness and some toffee character, but it does not overwhelm the fruit side, that shows quite intense appley fruit and rich citrus notes. There is a lot of complexity that is veawed by nuances of cream, even hints of butter, woody spice, some pithy grapefruit and hints of minerality. The finish is dry, long and acid-driven; the flavors of ripe citrus fruits and red apples fade away first, leaving a lingering aftertaste of wood, butter, oak spice and chalky minerality.
I was mainly disappointed with the heavy, buttery nose, but the palate side redeemed the wine with wonderful focus and brightness. The wine showed almost Burgundian poise with its surprisingly light and elegant palate and good focus on dry, restrained fruit. I can imagine this wine will age nicely for a handful of years and keep for at least a decade. Easily worth its price at 20,80€. -

June 4, 2011 - Slight yellow hue in the glass, the nose is developed and rich with almond, nectarine and butterscotch.
The palate is well structured with melon and nectarine fruit benefiting from spicy oak and creamy lees characters. The wine has just enough acidity to ensure focus and freshness on the finish.
