December 5, 2011 - This has turned a corner. on release this exploded with viognier notes on the nose along the fruitier, violet and anise scents of syrah. Now meatier syrah notes are starting to come through. Smooth, ripe tannins. My guess is that this about to shut down. However, iron notes of Northern Rhone are starting to develop in the finish. 89 plus but liable to be strange for the next couple years.

May 12, 2011 - 12% ABV. I believe this contains 15% Viognier. Translucent ruby garnet in the glass. Reticent floral, peach, olive nose. Medium-light bodied with a cool toned notion of slate and red fruit. More soft and approachable than I would have expected from a 12% ABV Syrah. This is pretty tasty, especially in contrast to the Rombauer Zin alongside it that is dripping with residual sugar.
