Community Tasting Notes 4

October 24, 2011 - Using Parker's criteria that this wine was without distinction or finesse, but no noticeable flaws. It made me realize why many of the common varietals are chosen (cab, pinot, merlot...) which is because they are pleasant. This wine was strongly tannic and (from wikipedia) tasted of sour plums. It had a quick finish. Due to these unusual characteristics I feel that other wines could do a better job of finding a sweet spot of acidity, fruit, and finish. I am sure some of my evaluation is due to a lack of familiarity with the wine but I could not see a reason to purchase again. On the other hand, I am able to check off another varietal on my century club list, which was the purpose of this purchase.

July 8, 2011 - Very earthy on the nose...some tobacco and a bit of barnyard. Instead of the corked bottle where it just got worse, this stayed the same and improved on the nose a bit after opening and getting some air. A fair bit of what seems to be oak toast as well. Flavours are still dominated by green pepper and show a bit of fruit, maybe sour cherry.
Not my favourite Baco Noir by any stretch, but not bad.

July 8, 2011 - All fertilizer and earth and a bit of green pepper. Got worse after being open for 15 minutes. Going to return it to K&L.

February 20, 2011 - Nice valuel Great purple color and clarity, nose is a bit funky in the way I enjoy (similar to Oregon Pinot's) Earthy, herby, black cherry flavors grab the palate, then slowly dissipate with a nice finish. Yum.
