December 31, 2020 - New Year's Eve Dinner (Herald & Teni's Place, Hong Kong): Incredibly crisp and precise. Taut. Crisp but probably fully mature. Somwhat bettered by the Champagne Barnaut 2000 we drank alongside it....but super. Happy New Year!

November 3, 2014 - The wine is clear and bright with a medium lemon colour and presence of small bubbles. The nose is clean and developing, showing medium intensity aromas of cream, fresh butter, green apple, lemon peel, rye bread, pastries and walnuts. The wine is off-dry in the mouth with a medium(+) refreshing acidity. It has a medium alcohol and a medium body with a delicate mousse. It has medium(+) intensity flavours of walnuts, cream, rye bread, green apples and lemon peel. The finish is long.

It is an outstanding quality wine. It has a lingering finish and a nice flavour concentration well-balanced by the fresh acidity. It also shows a good degree of complexity provided by autolytic notes and bottle ageing. Can drink now, but it has enough acidity and flavour concentration to develop some more complex tertiary aromas in the next 3-5 years.

I find it very interesting the variation of the bottles of this. Don't get me wrong they are all nice but the nose and palate can be so different. This one was quitter with an amazing complex palate. Lovely.

October 3, 2013 - I was worried that this one was starting to get old, but when I opened what sadly was my one and only bottle it was still pretty young. Aromas of lemon, golden apples, brioche and tons of mineral, good acidity and elegant mousse. Really nice.

April 30, 2013 - This showed a brilliant yellow-gold in the glass with aromas of straw, yellow flowers, floral stems and hints of apple. On the palate, it was smoother than expected, caressing even, yet with beautiful bright acidity showing tart apple and flower petals.

January 3, 2013 - DC winos belated holiday dinner - Mostly Burg and Bordeaux (Lavandou, Washington DC): A hint of slightly metallic note, seems a bit light and straightforward. Very fine mousse. It has gotten a bit more expressive but still only good not great.

Interestingly there was not as heavy a brioche nose of this bottle. Still an amazing wine with an exceptionally wonderful nose and palate but not same experience with my last bottle (see previous notes).

November 24, 2011 - Nose - quite sulphurous. Closed. Not much there.
Palate - more sulphur; fresh and spicy and very clean; concentrated green fruits. Did not seem to be showing well tonight. 88 pts.

August 29, 2011 - A Horizontal Champagne Tasting of Moutard & Others in Bordeaux of all places

OK - so its time to make a statement. First of all I cannot decide if this is the 2000 Brut or Brut Reserve as most have put their holdings down as the 2000 reserve but I cannot find it anywhere on the label and I completely disagree with the comments.

    Why the 96 rating?

Quite simply this blew me away - now I can see why the French love Billecart.

The nose is incredible it is like sitting it the kitchen smelling burnt toast with little wafts of cigar and other undertones. It is an amazing smell that everybody just sat there confused at, I don't mean a hint of burnt toast I mean you need to ring the fire brigade.
I am afraid it is very masculine in nature and the ladies thought it was a bit to heavy, but every french guy in the room just reached for their pens to write it down. It is really really lovely. Just buy it for the smell alone

The taste is beautiful and clean with some heavy undertones. A long finish

This is a buy at this price - get it
