September 23, 2023 - Golden-hued and a bit out of balance (not enough acidity), but the trademark pear, peach and passion fruit flavors were abundant and there was no mistaking this beautiful wine’s Gewurtz lineage. We enjoyed it mightily.

June 17, 2022 - PnP. Over the hill. More or less oxidized.

July 25, 2020 - From a 375 and a friends cellar., ullage was negligible and the cork fine. Color amber, the nose has a blend of botrytis and sherry, low acidity in the mouth increased the perception of this a a fine sherry rather a GE. Obviously not what was intended but still quite pleasant I readily finished my glass as we discussed what to serve with it. Aged Gouda and some freshly roasted almonds won.

April 9, 2018 - Popped and consumed rather quickly a variety of cheeses. I love ZH and I love gewurz, and Hengst is GC. I liked this bottle, but not as much as I SHOULD have liked it. The aromatics were beautiful, as expected -- mostly lychee and apricot. The wine is also extremely viscous. But the mouth couldn't quite compete with the nose. Also, there was a soapy, waxy quality that seemed to evolve. Finally, after two hours the wine was done. Just for the heck of it I recorked the bottle and drank the final glass the next night, and it seemed in that same place. Perhaps I'm grading overly harshly -- everyone seemed to enjoy the wine -- but my high expectations were not quite met.

July 10, 2015 - Surprisingly good. Thick mouthfeel. Some complexity. Pears, spices and some mineral is found in this former so opulent wine that has reached some maturity and has thrown some baby fat. Went well with cheese. Probably still a bit too rich on its own. 89-90
