January 6, 2015 - The story of this wine is of silky texture and bright fruit showing how Merlot grown at the extremes can hold up so nicely over time. At six years past vintage I had thought this would be a bit more evolved, but to my delight it was in a perfect place. Shellfish and elegant candied cassis dominate the nose at first, yielding to more barrel notes as it matures. A hint of capsicum gives away the terroir, but this wine more than lived up to the expectations as a value.

September 4, 2013 - Decanted for 4 hours prior to drinking with meal. Pretty, lush nose and taste of ripe plums, dark cherries and red currants and tasty smooth cocoa and tannins on the finish. This was unusual merlot in that it was quite satisfying on the nose, initial taste and finish, but with no discernable midpalate.

August 3, 2013 - Left for a weekend getaway and neglected to bring a bottle; fortunate to find this at a local restaurant that sold some retail wines, much better choices than what was available at the local groceries. Pop and pour, drank over two nights; quite a dark maroon color in the glass, red fruit and a bit of spice on the nose, simialr in the mouth. Smooth, nice texture, medium finish; drinks nicely, but doesn't change much with time; didn't strike me as terribly complex. 4+12+15+7

(Olsen Estates Merlot Yakima Valley) Dark in color. Aromas of coffee bean, currant, red fruit, and herbal notes rise up from the glass. The palate has rich, voluptuous fruit and a bit lighter structure than seen in many Washington Merlots. 100% Merlot. Aged in French oak (100% new) for 16 months. 14.4% alcohol. 337 cases produced.
