April 2, 2023 - Tasted at enoteca La Vite Turchese in Barolo. Today's tasting was Barbaresco and blended Barolo (sampling the different soil regions in the DOCG). Shop owner brought this out after. 20+ year Barbaresco. Nose has fruit and a bit of interesting funk, like a delicious cheese. Red fruit on the palate that lingers to a long, clean finish. Tannins have softened to almost nothing. Crazy good. Calling it a 94 as it drinks today, on a tough scale. Its not less than 93, this is really really good.

September 18, 2011 - A friend of mine who met the wine maker himself this year, shared the 1999 with us today. Interesting nose with camphor, menthol, ripe plum, prunes and some sweetness that is normally found in more Amarone type wines. A brownish tone but otherwise ruby red. On the palate this was heavy and full bodied, but the interplay between acidity and tannins was slightly unbalanced. I suspect this is already slightly past the ideal drinking age. Nonetheless a decent effort from a (at least to me) lesser know producer.

April 12, 2011 - Just tasted a bottle of this wonderful wine with Ugo Lequio at the winery in Nieve. The 1999 is drinking beautifully, with plenty of fruit and gentle tannins. It is loaded with cherries, and has a spicy note. It is an elegant wine, but also still powerful. It is mouth filling without being heavy. The long finish adds to the potential for a great food pairing. I would try duck, or if I ate red meat, I would do that too! It's a great value. Found it on wine searcher.

January 4, 2011 - New year's Eve bottle and well worth the choice.

Ugo Lequio has always had solid, correct and long lasting Barbarescos and this is the proof.

    Decanted 3 hours in advance
    Temperature of serving 19° C.
Color: Deep ruby with just a hint of mature dark orange on the outer nail
Nose: mature cherry, ribes, blackberries - the wood is perfectly balanced. long lasting, deep and evolving through the whole evening. A soft and "sexy" wine
Mouth: still a solid acidity, soft tannins, present but not intruding. Medium to long finish in mouth.

A traditional Gallina Barbaresco, well crafted, well made and that concentrates more on elegance than power. This is interesting considering that the Gallina area Barbaresco usually have a more "Barolo" approach.

Drink it before 2009 would have bene a crime, before 2011 a pity... it has reached the top now and will keep it for 5 years depending on the drinkers approach and habits.

    enjoy.
