It smells and tastes correct, but I've never had it before and don't know if it's showing properly. It's complex on the nose, with salt and toffee and that old library thing. The palate has quite a bit of tannin, as would be expected from old wines like this, but it is essentially balanced, and shows the same toffee and salinity as the nose. There are some dried fruits and coffee notes too, especially on the finish. This is a good wine, but to me, not as memorable as some others like it that I've had. Again, weird bottle, or simply not my favorite selection...

  November 27, 2017 - Reading my previous note I don't see any particular change, a really exceptional blend of intensity and lightness. Drunk over about 3 weeks.

  March 20, 2015 - Medlar lunch: Gorgeous colour. A really dense but bright and vibrant chestnut. Lovely nose, all brown sugar, nuts and spice. So smooth. Not a hint of heat or alcohol here, just smooth, gently nutty richness with a slowly building intensity and a very long finish. Gorgeous. ****1/2

  June 2, 2013 - An incredibly compelling Amontillado; so fragrant, complex and nuanced with layers of roasted nuts, smoke, salted caramel, saline elements and so much depth here. It's a powerful, intense wine yet there's such finesse and elegance on the palate and just absurd length.
