Community Tasting Notes 1

August 2, 2013 - We start off with 88 because this wine, now almost six years off the vine is still dark red all the way to the rim. On the other hand, this is a stubborn wine. Probably from a combination of clone 337 and some cooler climate terroir, it is still not revealing itself. Great color. The nose is still dominated by big French oak. The fruit is reticent. I swirled like crazy, and surprisingly got some red raspberry first. The palate is basically closed, just barely teasing us with serious highly rated Cabernet flavors. Unfortunately, as it gets some air and we drink down the glass, things start to come apart. Still plenty of acid. Not sure it is going to ever get any better. The finish is just as oaky as the nose. Not my favorite, wish we had another bottle to try.
