November 18, 2014 - Beautiful bright fruit with soft integrated tannins; good from nose to finish. Still reminiscent of the wine in it's youth but now much more distinguished. This bottle reflects the power of the Stefani fruit and the vintage.

July 25, 2010 - One of the most confounding wines of my experience. Began as a highly reated Dallas Morning News tasting panel wine and a case purchased at Red Coleman's on NW Hwy, this wine has never lived up to its potential. Slowly I have chipped away, one bottle at a time, using it to celebrate friend Stephanie's events. Each time I have been disappointed with high oak, minimal fruit, no body and absent integration and excessive tannins.

Finally after 16 years bottle came forth with a surprise. This had a great nose of roses, tar, currants and cedar. A more true to life repesentation of CS. The color was deep violet. On the palate one was offered a medium to full-bodied wine with soft, satinlike tannins. The taste profile was wide-ranging- violets, cedar, wet gravel, dark cherries, black currants and toasted sesame seed. The finish was long and reinforcing of the wine's complexity.

Never have I been more wrong about a wine's potential in its youth. Congratulation to the Dallas Morning News for this pick.

January 29, 2010 - Not fair because it is over the hill. Bought when this wine won an award in the Dallas Morning News tasting. Bought a case. Initially it was over powering with oak. I have tried several bottles over the ensuing years but never found it to be my style. It was always over oaked in character the seemed to mask any fruit and other varietal characters. This bottle: C- Deep garnet with much sediment N- Musky, earthy, champignon. T- Medium bodied, light tannins remain, stewed dark berries and cherries. Tolerable but a disappointment throughout its life.

(Gallo Stefani Cabernet Sauvignon) Blind I thought this was 10 year old Pauillac. Major shock when the label was revealed. Is it possible for the wine to start to taste worse as soon as the label is revealed? This had all the tar, tobacco, mineral, cocoa and earth one would want out of Bordeaux. Nice mix of fruit, mineral, buffering tannin and complexity on the palate. Not too much of anything but in nice balance.
