March 21, 2021 - Bought two cases en primeur and this was the first bottle from the 2nd case. Reading some notes I was slightly concerned that I might have left too long. Had at lunch and drank beautifully. You can see the age in the rim but there is still some fruit. Finished the bottle that evening and it was even better and the nose had come out. Very good.
May 19, 2020 - Don’t love. Don’t get more
May 3, 2019 - Decanted 3-4 hours. Quite red color and no signs of ageing (brinking). Very reserved in both nose and mouth. The fruit is not open and charming and never became. Lots of graphite, wood, stone, wet earth and liquorice. Not overly much tannic grip but doesn't seem over yet either.
April 19, 2019 - Very surprised by this bottle, as it was far better than expected. It was clear to me on opening that this was an excellent second wine that represented the great 1998 vintage in Pessac well. Excellent complexity, with lots of cassis, graphite, pencil shavings, violets, and espresso on the nose. The palate was nicely balanced and integrated. Very elegant on the palate. It never lost any steam over 2-3 hours. This wine has at least 7-10 years left in its prime drinking window, which is pretty impressive for a second wine.
Right on the spot avec cette bouteille!
May 13, 2018 - Sans note.
December 26, 2017 - Another bottle with R&L - this was as lovely as I remember it being, maybe even better. The beautiful Merlot of the 1998 vintage really shone here. It had a really pretty nose of sweet black cherries and cassis laced with florals, earth and spices, all tied together with a waft of tobacco smoke. The palate was beautifully velvety, with the tannins having softened into a silken ripple, and the wine being carried on a lovely bit of fresh acidity instead. It had lovely flavours too - cassis, black cherries, shading into plums, seasoned with a lovely sweet spiciness and a nice kiss of capsicum and tobacco. A touch light, but really pure and elegant and charming, with an almost Burgundian transperancy to it. A really, really nice second wine, drinking quite at peak - but drink up, the fruit will not last for much longer. This started dipping after just half-an-hour.
December 2, 2017 - Fruit was gone. Moderate finish but nothing special. Seems past its time, not getting any better. Souring. Drink up.
