September 21, 2023 - Tasted blind. It had a rather off putting cheesy smell. On the palate it’s concentrated and unyielding. Not sure whether it’s just too young or an off bottle.

June 20, 2023 - Classic is how I would describe this. It’s completely what I expected. Notes of earth, cigar tobacco, cedar and mint. Lovely palate, fully resolved tannins, velvety texture and medium body. In its drinking window but still some years ahead.

November 16, 2022 - The Last Dinner at Dinner (Dinner by Heston Blumenthal): By the glass ( Coravin Bottle) at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal as an apology for mixing our wine with another table. A poor apology as such.
The wine felt burnt and soft porty almost like the ripeness was out of control , almost overdone in its youth. Poor wine and poorer than their apology.

March 21, 2021 - Bought two cases en primeur and this was the first bottle from the 2nd case. Reading some notes I was slightly concerned that I might have left too long. Had at lunch and drank beautifully. You can see the age in the rim but there is still some fruit. Finished the bottle that evening and it was even better and the nose had come out. Very good.

May 3, 2019 - Decanted 3-4 hours. Quite red color and no signs of ageing (brinking). Very reserved in both nose and mouth. The fruit is not open and charming and never became. Lots of graphite, wood, stone, wet earth and liquorice. Not overly much tannic grip but doesn't seem over yet either.

April 19, 2019 - Very surprised by this bottle, as it was far better than expected. It was clear to me on opening that this was an excellent second wine that represented the great 1998 vintage in Pessac well. Excellent complexity, with lots of cassis, graphite, pencil shavings, violets, and espresso on the nose. The palate was nicely balanced and integrated. Very elegant on the palate. It never lost any steam over 2-3 hours. This wine has at least 7-10 years left in its prime drinking window, which is pretty impressive for a second wine.

May 14, 2018 - Ouvert pour notre ami Étienne, le 2eme vin de Haut-Brion affiche encore une fraicheur et jeunesse remarquable. Un bon bordeaux bien en place c’est toujours plaisant. Right on the spot avec cette bouteille!
