April 12, 2024 - Wah, was decent but far from previous bottles of this vintage.

This bottle was very advanced. Very. Almost as if it was exposed to heat at some point. Not sure how long I've had this but I somehow recall I bought this online a year or so ago, Big mistake!!!!!!! Previous bottles of this vintage from my cellar were clearly a world apart from this bottle. They were beautiful, lush, full bodied, super elegant.

This had an over arching burnt flavor of tobacco, cedar, torched leather, bramble, alcoholic cassis with a dash super black licorice, black berries and heat. Kinda disjointed based on the burnt echo in all the flavor, not the 96 Dominus I know.

What a shame. Note to self, yet again screwed by wine merchants claiming to have older wines stored under in temperature control since they were purchased. What a bunch of BS!! Luckily I have enough wine and won't have to deal w this ever again. Scammers.

July 3, 2023 - Dark fruit, currant, blueberries and dark cherries. Graphite, black tea and mineral. Long finish. Could use just a tad more acid, a little round with very soft powdery tannins. Really excellent bottle. This is in a very good place right now but would seem to have many years still in the tank.

May 14, 2023 - Four hour slo ox, one hour full decant. Deep dark color without any signs of aging. Nose of dark fruit, oak and smoke, sweet fine resolved soft tannins, full bodied, balanced, powerful yet refined. This is the real deal and at its apogee.

April 24, 2023 - This showed brilliantly and very Bordeaux-like with black fruits and a wonderful layered mouthfeel. The finish is so smooth and complex with notes of sweet graphite and fresh minerals. I'd love to throw this wine into a blind 1996 Bordeaux tasting as it's a dead ringer for the '96 Pichon Lalande. Dinner at Dominus.

April 19, 2023 - Cold rainy Nite in MSP but all was good at St Genevieve tonight! This was tasty enough for my liking but not as stellar as Dominus can be. Didn't sense any major flaws but my palate was fading with this pour last wine of the night and the burger paired with it was packed with flavor.

April 19, 2023 - Heidi's Gang: The White Burgs Reign (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color. PNP, followed a glass over 90 minutes. Reticent nose, dried earth, charred, mulled fruit, caramelized sugar, heat. The palate shows baked dark fruit, lots of alcohol coming through, brown sugar. I may be alone, but this is not right. Probable heat damage. No score.

April 9, 2023 - Subtle notes of red fruit, currant, baking spice, and a bit of eucalyptus on the nose. Very pure and focused.
On the palate, this is fantastic, ripe red fruit burst through with medium body, med- acidity, and med+ tannin.
This is great now and still has plenty of time.

January 21, 2023 - Very rare I give a wine 100 or close to it. Incredible depth, still two or more decades of life but in a place of maturity that's impossible to resist. Coffee, dark chocolate, spice, just incredible. Ordered 6 more.

June 25, 2022 - Incredible balance and wonderful fruit still after 26 years. Fine, resolved tannins with a nice finish. Many years left in this elegant wine.

Le Bar a Boeuf. Over fois grois and filet mignon.
