January 20, 2024 - A better bottle than the one I opened a year ago. Decanted for sediment and consumed immediately over several hours in a Grassl Cru. A good choice for a snowy winter evening. A bit of alcohol on the nose when first opened. Herbal savory fruits with decent acidity backing it up. A satisfying rustic wine, decent value from WineBid at $30. Will hold my last bottle for a few more years.

December 28, 2022 - Decanted and consumed immediately over several hours. I did not care for the nose of this wine, which started off quite funky (oaky??) and never blew off, but I don’t think it was from TCA. Palate was better, if not terribly complex. Relatively light and not over the top, with light blue berry and grape along with earthy soil and some orange citrus flavors.

July 11, 2022 - From double magnum. Opened and tasted had some funky smell and tasted of dark fruit, tobacco. Decanted next day funk was gone held up nicely during evening. Overall very good

January 15, 2022 - Popped and poured. Slight funk at first which dissipated.
Dark fruit (cherry, blueberry, plum), earth, tobacco, slight soy, leather. Some tannins. Slight cedar

December 22, 2021 - My introductory tour of Italian wines continues.... One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. A fair amount of sediment in the screen. During decant, a slight waft of dried cherries and leather came forth. After resting in the decanter and poured into the glass: wine was clear; dark ruby bowl to a lighter pinkish rim surrounded by a large halo. Nose continued to show dried cherries and leather notes with a very floral undertone. In the mouth, dried red fruits, citrus peel, herbs and some charcoal ash (similar to a grilled steak in the Summer). Lovely mouth feel: smooth, generous and deep. Perfect accompaniment to Sicilian-spiced veal chops. Plenty of time left per my (admittedly novice) palate.

(BRONZO Falerno del Massico) Bronzo Dear Friends, The next Galardi? Ok, that’s a loaded statement but the emerging region that dots a volcanic outcropping (a stone’s throw from where Galardi is produced) has a chance to be the next hot ticket in Italy. With high elevation, pristine wilderness and old-vine Aglianico as the backbone, it’s easy to see why this intriguing sub-district has the goods to combine the best of what’s being accomplished on Mt. Etna (Sicily) with the more rugged and intense native varietals of Campania. While there are a handful of upstarts, Felicia has a long head-start and I'm not sure anyone will catch them. What separates Felicia from the others is a feminine quality that owner Maria Brini brings to the table – she’s dealing with thick-skinned southern grapes and her resolve is to balance their masculinity with her own female sensibility. So far, she’s on to something very promising indeed as these are not only memorable wines but they stand out in a crowd for their proud and passionate reliance on the mysterious underpinning of indigenous varietals (in this case, Aglianico and the purple-staining Piedirosso – the exact same composition as Galardi): If you like to discover wine before it becomes, well, “discovered”, here’s your chance while the price is still in line with other high-level examples from Italy (the 2007 version of this wine is slated to be closer to $100 and I'm not sure it’s better than the 2006 – most of you already know my affinity for 2006 on the Italian coast from Liguria all the way to Campania as the structure of the wines is the most complete and refined for many years – the 2006’s from Felicia took full advantage of the growing season). VERY HARD TO FIND and VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a mouthful of spice-drenched, burly fruit that retains a poise that only the very best wines possess....it also goes on and on and on... ONE SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance (this wine is not typically exported): 2006 Masseria Felicia “Etichetta Bronzo” (Falerno del Massico/Campania)- (this is not the regular Rossi, the Etichetta is their very top wine – in addition, this is not the same 2006 Bronzo bottling that was offered last July around the US) Please give us your maximum number up to 24/person and we will allocate accordingly To order: niki@garagistewine.com This parcel is set to depart form Italy – it will arrive in February (please check OARS for local pick up after February 20th).
