Community Tasting Notes 3

June 20, 2017 - Shame this was my last bottle. Very tight on the nose. Some cranberry and unresolved oak but not too heavy. As it opened it became approachable but the tannins on taste hid lots of fruit. long finish, Second day it started opening up. A bit of Pommard style iron or rusty nails on the second day. More refined but the grainy tannins still there. Easily 10+ years of more aging to resolve the tannins. Very surprised that a 97 would be so backward. Corton seems to needs lots more aging.

December 13, 2012 - Ok nose, still very primary even though there is bricking on the color. Nose of cranberry, cherry, and decayed leaves. On taste initially pretty thin and linear but with cranberry crispness. Tannins still firm like a young wine and a decent length on the finish. Over time the nose opened up more with slight hints of turmeric and the body really filled in to light to medium. Not as linear. Tannins still firm. For a 97 I expected it to be more open but looks like it needs much more aging.

After 2 days it opened up more - looks like much more aging needed which is kind of a surprise for a 97 where one would think it would be ready to drink earlier. Like other Cortons this needs more time than other Burgundies.

August 27, 2005 - Burgundy Dinner (Mark & Dawne's): Decanted for one hour prior to tasting. Medium ruby, quite dark for a nine year-old Burgundy, Powerful nose of earth, mineral - literally like crawling in the dirt. The palate is all musty and decayed fruit with a superb mouthfeel. Integrated oak and tannins. Fully mature and quite glorious.
