August 4, 2011 - A bit on the fruity side with some nice spices in the mid palate and not much on the finish. This is a wine that does much better with food.

June 22, 2010 - This wine shows pretty well on the nose. It has a nice, unique-to-the-varietal expression, and a pretty solid sense of terroir. The very first thing that hits me is this intense, pepper and spice box quality, that hinges on cinnamon stick, and truly defines this wine’s aroma. There is some strawberry, mixed red berry, and plum tones, and a bit of something that I can only describe as mountain air. It’s uniquely mineral and pine laden, and there is a subtle grilled component, some maduro cigar wrapper, and the very faintest touch of mint.
The palate opens somewhat tart, with a bright, strong, Bing cherry component. There are some violet, rose, and geranium components that come through quite clearly, and the floral quality to this wine hinges on feeling slightly artificial. There is a bit of leather, some dark stone, and a generous amount of earth, with bitter wood and forest moss components. The finish is strangely reminiscent of cola, and there is a touch of licorice and bitter Earl Gray tea at the end.
This is a very unique wine, and I like how different it is from just about anything else I have tried from Italy. However, this is going to be an experience that I can see most people will not necessarily enjoy. The acidity is a little sharp, and there is a dry, bitterness that makes it feel somewhat harsh. It’s got good intensity and a medium-light body that could probably pair well with a variety of foods, but I wouldn’t recommend this wine as a first choice selection to anyone but the most adventurous. Not worth drinking.
