    March 28, 2024 - 2009 Pousse D'Or Clos D'Audignac Volnay

Purchased on release; enjoyed Friday March 22, 2024
    45 minute decant
Deep ruby color with slight lightening at rim. Expressive bouquet of black fruit and sous bois. Rich, aged, succulent fruit, excellent balance, soft tannins, and 10+ second finish.
A really enjoyable Volnay 1o Cru with all the characteristics of the 2009 vintage on full display. A lovely wine from a really good producer.
In a perfect spot now, and still has 5+ years of drinking pleasure ahead.

October 21, 2022 - Bitter cherry predominates, with some pomegranate and herbs in the background. With air, it took on deeper tones of darker berries with some forest floor notes. Despite some other notes, I wouldn't call it lush; maybe lush for a Burgundy (we all have our points of reference). A bit gritty, but the fruit compensated. Not particularly complex at this juncture. Bitterness was really the key point. I could tolerate it, but not really enjoy it.

February 14, 2021 - With an hour in the decanter this is drinking fabulously, and continued to develop in the glass. The nose is a little restrained, but it explodes on the palate with cherry, plum, liquorice, and crushed stone. The depth is outstanding and it is luscious in the mouth. Likewise the finish is perfectly balanced, and keeps subtly pushing on for 30+ seconds. My only criticism is that it is so easy to drink that it's a push to make it last the evening!

July 20, 2017 - Initially relatively weak nose of blackberry, cranberry, pomegranate, with fuller and gamier notes emerging after a half hour; fairly full palate and somewhat long lived, a certain plump elegance and suavity, but somewhat closed and rather lacking in finesse and interest

April 29, 2017 - Wow! Dang this is delicious, even at this young age. Incredible nose of spice, licorice, saline and oyster shell, bright reddish fruits with sour cherry, dusty cranberries, mineral... explosive. The finish is round, long, structured, and balanced. Very approachable now after a 30 min. decant. Incredible wine which I am now on the prowl to acquire more. Worth every penny...

April 18, 2017 - Pretty deep darker ruby color. Pretty explosive notes of dark cherries, plum, smoke, oaky spiciness, licorice, also some gamey notes, some violets and minerality. It's medium-full bodied, dense but very balanced with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin that is still present but very good quality. With some more air also some sour cherries. Very good length. A beautiful, juicy and seductive Volnay 1er Cru and a mouthful of Burgundy. It's not the last word about complexity but makes up for it with plenty of fruit, mid-palate persistence and freshness.

January 31, 2017 - Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Alpharetta, GA): Darker ruby, paler rim; darker fruit on nose, slightly reduced, oak, red apple skin mixed with violets, roses, and dark cherry, toasty oak, still very young, really thought this was Cote du Nuits; called '12 Gevrey; happy to see this still young and ageing gracefully; very good.

July 30, 2016 - I love this producer... Consistently great wines regardless of the vintage. While still very youthful, it is hard to resist now. It continues to unfold over the course of three hours. Jammy fruit and almost new world in style, this is still pure 1er Cru Volnay. Delicious! All roads do ultimately lead to Burgundy... I just wish my pocketbook would follow this road.

January 19, 2016 - Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+: Deeper maroon with paler rim, see through; lots of sulfur, watermelon, young, sour cherry, bone dust, just slightly grapey; good depth on palate, sweet sour cherry; tasty, young.

November 30, 2012 - super ripe. Very ripe and tasty in a pop an pour. Strong cherry, and pinot fruit that move to a viscous and long finish. After 2+ hrs, we start to get pinot funk on the nose and earth in the taste. Nice now, but give this at least 5 more years.
