Community Tasting Notes 7

January 12, 2020 - Color was fine but quite funky, too mu h even for me. The nose was otherwise shy and the palate without much else to offer. There seemed to still be some fruit. In fact, over a couple of hours (it had been decanted an hour or so before drinking) it did improve but not to the point of enjoyment.

October 6, 2017 - A beautiful and very classic example of what a well aged Brunello of a great vintage can taste like. It is all there: enticing aromas of ripe black fruit and fresh cherry evolving with leather, indian spices, licorice, red licorice and funghi.
On the palate the wine shows silky, mouth coating, tannins with balanced fruit and fresh acidity.
The finish is fresh and seems to linger on for ever.

It is in a perfect spot right now. It will last for quite some time but will probably not improve. Drink now - 2025

I've never been very impressed with Brunelli from Fattoria dei Barbi. This one however is very impressive. A proof that good wines have come from these vineyards.

And another example for me that the '99 vintage of Brunello often outclasses the much hyped '97 and '01 vintages!

NB1: I bought this wine at the winery shortly after release and kept it in proper storage ever since. Provenance is critical with this kind of wine.

NB2: the wine was quite open after popping the cork but really started to shine about een hour later. I would never decant a Brunello, they are too refined for that. Just let it evolve in the glass and enjoy slowly:)

June 7, 2014 - Gustazo's. well-balanced and in a good spot for drinking. This was popped and poured and would suggest decant for an hour or more.

November 28, 2012 - Nice fungus on the finishfor old world lovers but its single dimensionnal palate didn't draw me in as much as it should

April 20, 2012 - quite muted nose of leather and cedar. because alcohol dominates, I wonder if it had the fruit to last 14 yrs (or provenance, I purchased at auction 3.5 yrs ago). The round, full mouthfeel is the source of its strength. Impressive finish. Don't know that it's worth $77 though.
