August 11, 2022 - Agree with everyone else who says this is Bordeaux-like. Stewed black cherries, stewed plums, dried mushrooms, dirt, dust, tobacco and the faintest hint of green bell pepper. Medium acid (still!) and pretty nice tannins that linger on the palate.

The structure that got this to 23 years old is apparent. That said, I would drink now.

November 9, 2021 - Delicate nose. Color is good and cork was in good shape.

Cherry is dominant fruit flavor, but there is stewed dark berries, tobacco, tea and earthiness. Taking on the characteristics of Bordeaux. Still some tannin, but really silky. Napa cabernet at 25 years is pretty remarkable.

Bought directly from the winery in 2021, as part of '97/'98 2 pack. Worth it to go back in time to one of my early favorites.

November 12, 2020 - Coravin taste. I’m with O’Meara on this one. A maligned vintage, and my own single bottle was “abandoned” in storage for ten years while we lived overseas. After that, and earlier notes from others, I was essentially putting off opening it. So all I needed to do was wait about 22 years and this is super. Dark color, great aromas, integrated tannins and a surprising amount of fruit left, providing a long, persistent finish. A great bargain since I can’t remember what I paid for it back when I was young...

October 6, 2020 - A wine at its apogee! This reminds me of an unclassified St. Julien. A bouquet with notes of cassis, leather, green tobacco, beef blood, and a hint of vanillin. Smooth tannins frame the dark red fruit that lingers on the medium-body palate for 30 seconds. This is a very lovely wine, and it makes me wish that I had some bottles of the reserve wine.
