September 18, 2023 - BOROBO used to be Lapostolle's flagship ("icon") wine, and was meant as a hommage of sorts of France's great wine-growing regions: BOrdeaux, ROdano (Rhone) and BOrgoña (Burgundy)… so in essence it was some kind of Bordeaux blend with Syrah and Pinot Noir. the last vintage made was 2015.

wine was given a one-hour double decant to remove moderate fine sediment.

dark purple in the glass with garnet rim and a inky core. cassis, fig and black plum are the dominant nose notes enriched by spice, leather, and whiffs of garrigue and earth. ample and silky in the mouth, it is concentrated without being overpowering. layers of fruit glide over the palate lifted by good acidity and with peppery and spicy notes. there is a subtle and persistent vein of balsamic sweetness that runs from beginning to end. fully integrated and polished tannins and moderate plus length.

very much in line with the style of the house and of its vintage. at first it seemed as though the RO (SY) dominated; with time the first BO (CS/ CM/ ME/ PV) took centre stage… while the last BO (PN) seems to have been lost in the blend. the sweet notes were a surprisingly good complement to the onion of the Chilean empanadas.

14.5% AbV stated; 22% Pinot Noir from Casablanca (presumably Atalayas); 78% other varietals from Rapel (presumably Apalta)

August 29, 2021 - Interesting wine indeed. Based on the label I assumed it close to a Montes Purple Angel and it benchmarks well: inky black on the eye, nose full of dark berries. Dense and fruit-forward on the palate, with carmenere and Syrah dominating. A bit much on the strong (15% alcohol) and sweet side for my taste nowadays, ten years ago this would have become a favorite. Still a good wine.

December 23, 2020 - Albeit formulaic, it's a great wine. Takes guts to try something like this. Very Chile, in a good way.

September 9, 2018 - Inky, dark and brooding with powerful tannins. The Petit Verdot and Carignan dominate the flavors in this blend. Will likely keep for at least four more years.

October 25, 2013 - Deeeeep crimson color that clings to the glass. At 14.5% amazing legs. Berry, cherry and tobacco nose. Deep flavors consistant with the aroma, great tannins. Some bark on the finish that lingers.
