July 30, 2023 - Powerful stuff. Still inky dark, the nose is warm and generous with pipe tobacco and dark fruits. Punchy and smooth on the palate, deep and meaty.

July 3, 2022 - Pure Malbec from 100 y/o vines.
For a 14 year old wine this was remarkable in appearance as the rim was still purple. The sediment it threw when decanting was massive too.
The fruit flavour is a combination of blackberries and damsons, that are so fresh and juicy but underpinned with robust tannins. As it develops on the tongue there is a little heat and spice and subtle oaky notes. Sweet fruited and incredibly vibrant, the intrinsic character remains savoury, and the flavours simply improve with each mouthful. As the wine opened out still further the texture became silky and there was a distinct residual flavour of dark chocolate. A stunning red wine. 94 pts -

August 19, 2020 - Drank the day after the 2005 - hard to tell the difference but both very nice. Blue fruits, pepper, violets. Like a lot of Cahors wine, a bit monolithic but so good with most meat / cheese.

September 13, 2018 - This was truly excellent. Decant and drink now without regret. I seem to remember dark plum and bramble, and something a little sappy too, but in a good way.

August 12, 2018 - I loved this stuff; deep ruby with a hint of garnet on the edge, pronounced nose with aromas of black plum, black cherry, damson, dried blackberry, tar, earth, leather, tobacco, game, meat and prune.
Dry, med + acidity, high, smooth tannins but still with a few rough edges, high alcohol (14%) but well integrated, pronounced intensity with a long finish, flavours follow through the aromas but with more fresh fruit from blackcurrant and blackberry. An outstanding wine suitable for drinking now but good to keep for another 20 odd years when the colour and tertiary flavours will only develop further.
I find this more refined, with less ripe fruit, than most Argentinian Malbecs but would put it a similar quality level to the Trapiche single vineyard series.2 people found this helpful
