January 4, 2019 - Has evolved since we last tasted this. Drank over an hour and was initially tight but open up well within the hour. Still has time.

Since last opening a bottle in 2013, this wine still has an almost pinkish rim around a dark plum-colored wine. Heavy tearing with notable staining. Its intense on the nose with much more muted fruit than before: brambly blackberry, plum, and strawberry. Hints of almost jasmine flowers over much more pronounced mocha, forest floor, and pepper.

Dry. Dark fruit is much riper and more pronounced on the palate. Still with hints of flowers, bacon, earth, and pepper. Acid med+, tannin, high, alcohol high without being hot. Med complexity in a brambly, fruity wine balanced with bracing tannins and enough alcohol to match to robust flavors. Very enjoyable.

December 1, 2018 - PnP. What a full mouthful. Crisp, pure fruit primarily blueberry with hints of red fruit engulfed by a huge punch of spice which integrates with some time in the glass.

    August 25, 2018 - PnD let air for 1hr.

Consistent with previous notes. On this night I preferred the 2011.

April 13, 2018 - Opened this bottle after a terribly corked bottle of 2013 Bedrock Heritage Wine. Monte Rosso Zins reportedly age well, so I cellared this bottle a bit to test the theory. I have never found that aging Zinfandel (perhaps my favorite varietal) is necessary or worthwhile. Same result here. This bottle was certainly solid, with darker fruit notes than I anticipated from Monte Rosso vineyard. But I am sure that it also would have rocked if I drank it years ago. My conclusion = don't hesitate to drink up and enjoy Zin when young!

(Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard) Medium dark ruby color; intriguing, violets, black currant, stoney, briary nose; tasty, brambly, tart black currant, violets palate, very characterful; medium-plus finish (from a block planted in 1886)
