Community Tasting Notes 6

August 26, 2013 - Final bottle, and not so over the hill as the previous one (bottle variation? or what I'm drinking it with? [in this case paella]) The fruit is noticeably fresher than in the previous bottle and is supported by some tannin and acidity. At this point it's a fairly simple but very pleasant CdR, with little complexity and a short finish.

Given my background in academia, the numerical rating practice on this wonderful web site gives me some trouble: below 80 indicates "Below/Average" or worse and 80-85 merely indicates "Good." So my score indicates "Good," whereas that grade on a term paper would mean Excellent. But perhaps the quality of wine-making is going up (anecdotally, it feels like it has) whereas writing skills are a tougher challenge (witness this tasting note!)

August 19, 2013 - Over the hill, but my fault for sticking it in the basement and not paying attention. But with food it's still drinkable, with lingering tannin and acidity. In fact, slightly better on the 2nd day: the fruit tasted less "stewed." I recognize that I need to learn that most C du R are not built like Coudoulet de Beaucastel! Obvious, of course. In French bars they typically hand you last year's bottling.

February 18, 2012 - Very nice! Mid weight, lots of CDR character. Tons of fruit, good structure. Great value.

May 31, 2011 - Absolutely fantastic QPR red! Got it for $14 at LCBO Vintages section. Dark ruby colored w/ flavours of cherries, cassis, berries and a hint of leather. Went out after tasting to buy 2 more bottles.
