February 26, 2024 - Similar colour to the Carlos Serres alongside, but cloudier with a little more fine sediment sitting through the bottle. A muddier profile too with soy and a suggestion of beef tea partially occluding the red fruit and fragrant line. Doesn’t really evolve and is starting to show the generic old wine profile, though it’s retained sufficient Rioja typicity to be recognisable. Slightly furrier than the Serres. A venerable drink, but this bottle some way down the slope. For a sixty year old fairly mass-produced wine though, it’s still showing a fair degree of interest. ***

November 24, 2022 - holding up, but this wine is ready to drink; Has the tertiary flavors- mushroom, leather, and earthiness, but not much fruit left. I do like wines with age on them, but this one just tasted too old for my taste. It was just OK at this point; I wish I had opened this at least 5 years ago.

August 16, 2016 - Bodegas Berberana 1950-1985: Similar to '52 in its overall quality. Beautiful complexity - popcorn, hint of dill, forest aromas, mushroom, may be truffle. Medium body, with pepper, plum and marinade that comes with time.

March 19, 2016 - Rioja 1964-1982 night at Bertie: My wine of the night, flinty red berry nose, not even 3rd-ish, pretty amazing-ly fresh. The palate has it all, with plum, strawberry, good acidity to keep it alive for 15 more years or more. Balanced, powerful and great. 95 points.
