February 18, 2021 - Dried cherries and cranberries, minerals, dried roses. Palate is mature and showing great! Hint of sweetness, still a tinge of acidity, savoury herbs and earthy mushrooms. Enjoyed with skirt steak and chimichurri - great combination.

November 28, 2016 - Consistent with my previous tns. First night a glass via coravin, tight and masculine, mostly mineral with a hint of dry black fruit and tar. Formidable structure, mouth puckering acidity and tannins. Pop and pour, a bit more generous but still quite masculine. With 24 hours of air, dry black fruits, tar, a hint of licorice, roasted chestnut, decaying leaves, iron and earth. A bit denser and sweeter, excellent concentration, bright acidity, coarse tannins and a long masculine finish. I find the wine a bit monolithic and it lacks charm. I highly recommend a few hours of decanting. Simply roasted meat dishes with herbs will be the best match.

September 6, 2015 - Consistent with the last bottle. Very youthful masculine wine but very mineral. Iron and mineral driven nose, sweet dry red cherries, roasted nuts and earth. Good concentration, dry cherry driven palate impression, still noticeable slightly dry tannins that are not bothersome. For my palate, kinda wine to drink in a cold winter night.

November 8, 2013 - Marchesi di Barolo vertical from 2009-1951 (Merano Wine Festival): Potpourri, gamey, but not barnyard. Lovely and endearing palate, a dollop of chocolate, and a great long finish. Tertiary notes but fresh and balanced, a touch of cep mushroom (Steinpilz). So you have a sense of just freshly picked mushrooms and cherry notes. One of the very best wines of the tasting. Beautiful! 13.5% alcohol

June 7, 2013 - Pop and pour, thin and very little fruits, perhaps sun dry tomato. Thin palate impression, noticeable acidity and tannins. After 24 hours, becoming more expressive, iron and mineral driven nose, sweet dry black fruits, iron and earth. The palate definitely is denser and sweeter, a bit more acidity and not as noticeable tannins. This is an old school Barolo that definitely needs to be decanted minimum six hours ahead. Started as 87 point wine but the second night 91. Definitely recommend to serve with a fatty dish.
